Statement, SPOILER ALERT
This is a text-based game made through Twine, inspired by the experience and understanding of vengeful emotions, anger, and conflict. The game tests the player's approach to predictable conflicts, unexpected conflicts, and threats, as well as obsession and conscience.
The game references the structure of the game Route 96 and the narrative logic of the movie Cloud Atlas. Other references include the dark comedy series Relatos salvajes, the movie Inglorious Bastards, and the movie Cliff Walkers, which provided me with references to the conflict plot narrative.
Using the structure of Route 96, I created three story lines in chronological order, but did not list them in such order. The player is invited to enter from any point of the story line by choosing one of the three names on the main menu, creating a narrative sequence of their own. As in Route 96, this game puts the player in the role not of the game's protagonist, but of three characters from different time periods whose fates are serendipitously intertwined with the two protagonists. The player decides Hans and Elijah's fate through five decisive choices in the game. The three symbols ⚪⬜⬛ represent three behavioral logics and approaches: smooth, straightforward, and aggressive, and correspond to one, two, and three points, respectively, at the code level.
The three endings to this game: the Redemption Ending in which Elijah arrests Hans instead of killing him; the Revenge Ending in which Elijah kills Hans; and the Madly Revenge Ending in which Elijah not only kills Hans but also kills Hans' family. After the player has finished three stories, the mechanic determines the player's score: with a score of 5 or 6 corresponding to the Redemption Ending; 7 to 12 corresponds to the Revenge Ending; 13 to 15 corresponds to the Madly Revenge Ending. Only a very few routes lead to the Redemption Endings, while most routes lead to the Revenge Ending, as in prejudices and contradictions are very, very hard to be resolved. And the Madly Revenge Ending is actually a sign of extreme pain and sadness.
